Advertising that blends in with the user experience, so it’s less intrusive and more likely to invite user clicks.

Native advertising can appear in print or online—on Facebook, Twitter, Pintrest, Tumblr, YouTube and in articles, blog posts and videos.

Native ads can resemble an advertorial in a magazine. Or they can be promoted pins, Tweets, posts, TrueView videos (on YouTube) or sponsored stories on Facebook.

It’s a challenge searching for local companies that are a good fit for our 20/20 series, so we needed to have a cup of coffee and relax … and wouldn’t you know, we found our next partner—Café Jumping Bean. It’s a relationship that percolated perfectly, because we got to learn all about their 20 years in business and sample their custom blend coffee, which we enjoyed all month.

Newsjacking is a tactic used by brands to capitalize on current news stories to amplify sales and marketing success, e.g. get free pr for their brand.

The term was coined by David Meerman Scott in his book Newsjacking: How to Inject Your Ideas Into a Breaking News Story and Generate Tons of Media Coverage.

A classic example is Oreo’s “you can still dunk in the dark” tweet that was posted when the power went out at the 2013 Super Bowl.
