It’s a challenge searching for local companies that are a good fit for our 20/20 series, so we needed to have a cup of coffee and relax … and wouldn’t you know, we found our next partner—Café Jumping Bean. It’s a relationship that percolated perfectly, because we got to learn all about their 20 years in business and sample their custom blend coffee, which we enjoyed all month.

Newsjacking is a tactic used by brands to capitalize on current news stories to amplify sales and marketing success, e.g. get free pr for their brand.

The term was coined by David Meerman Scott in his book Newsjacking: How to Inject Your Ideas Into a Breaking News Story and Generate Tons of Media Coverage.

A classic example is Oreo’s “you can still dunk in the dark” tweet that was posted when the power went out at the 2013 Super Bowl.

This month, in our ongoing effort to connect with local businesses that are also celebrating their 20th anniversary, Pepper Group partnered with Mickey Finn’s Brewery in Libertyville. We brought several bottles of their American-Style Amber Ale back to the office, and shared them for “beer :30,” our company-wide 3:30pm Friday beer gathering.
