Team Pepper, Fun

It’s time once again for the first (delayed) installment of Bears Squares.

This week the Bears limp into the Bay area to take on the San Francisco (Santa Clara) 49ers. The night is extra special, as fans will don their best Canadian Tuxedos (at least in my imagination everyone will be dressed head to toe in denim) and unveil the brand new $1.2 Billion Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA, about 45 miles south and east of the city.

Most of us keep up with the news. But how we stay informed varies. You’d think older people prefer print while younger ones go online, but according to a recent study, we rely on a mix of sources and technologies to keep up with ISIS, Ebola and Kimye.

Going to Market, Insights & Perspective

Marketers always attend to brand image, lead generation, product offerings and promotions. But there are some other key areas that take a backseat, are another department’s responsibility or are simply overlooked. Take a look at these eight areas and rate yourself as either “Yes, we’re nailing it,” or “No, we’re not where we need to be.”

If you’ve had a Frappuccino®, taken a ride on Amtrak or heard of Groupon, you know what a portmanteau is. It’s a word made from other words and their definitions that can make a great company or brand name, or refer to anything else. By the way, since you’re reading this in our blog (web + log), that’s one, too.

If you have any Canadian email recipients on your list, you need to be aware of Canada’s new Anti-Spam Law (CASL), which went into effect as of July 1, 2014.

In a nutshell, CASL is much stricter than the U.S. law, CAN-SPAM. It applies to any form of “commercial electronic messaging” (email, social media, text messages) that is sent from or accessed by a computer system in Canada. Here are three big things you need to know now:

You type faster than you write. Thoughts flow like lightning from your brain to your fingertips, and a pen or pencil slows you down. Handwriting feels awkward and anachronistic, so aside from the few checks, birthday and thank-you cards you need to write, why even bother with a pen or pencil any more? The short answer is that writing cements ideas into your brain better than typing.
